Petition for scientist banned from the United States

The Canadian scientific community urges the Canadian government to issue visas for scientists banned from the United States as a consequence of the Executive Order which prevents individuals from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S.A. for 90 days. This order goes against the principles of openness and diversity which allow scientific research to flourish, and temporarily welcoming displaced scientists will benefit our communities.

We demand that CIHR returns to “face-to-face” peer reviews for the Fall 2016 open operation grant competitions and suggest that the Fundamental Science Review committee requires “face-to-face” as the standard review process for Canadian government funding agencies such as CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC in order to ensure the quality and the trust of the research community in the peer review process.
