Applications are invited for a full-time, career stream Instructor position, with the potential to start May 1, 2021, or as soon as possible thereafter. The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at Dalhousie University offers an introductory laboratory course for Biochemistry, in addition to higher level Biochemistry student laboratory courses. The Instructor is primarily responsible for the development, delivery, assessment, and continual revision and improvement of the laboratory exercises in each of the classes in collaboration with faculty involved in the delivery of the lecture material. The Instructor will also oversee the day-to-day activities of the laboratory technician. Additional responsibilities include class administration (e.g. timetabling and Navigator), student evaluations, academic advising, training and supervision of teaching assistants for the laboratory sessions, and the maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment. On a limited basis, the Instructor will be involved in the teaching of introductory Biochemistry and other courses as required, and will participate as a non-expert tutor in Dalhousie’s Medical School.
The candidate must have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a closely related field, as well as demonstration of strong laboratory skills. Candidates must have a strong background and interest in teaching at the university level, excellent written and oral communication skills, good interpersonal skills, excellent computer skills, and an interest in working as a member of an academic team in program delivery, refinement, and assessment. The ability to problem-solve in a laboratory setting will be required.
