The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of McGill University is inviting applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Biochemistry.
The Department of Biochemistry is a research-intensive department composed of 28 full-time academic staff members, 21 associate members, and 7 adjunct or affiliate members. Department members have strong links with the Goodman Cancer Institute, the Centre for Structural Biology, and University-wide initiatives in RNA biology. Department members teach in undergraduate, graduate and clinical medicine programs.
The successful applicant will hold a senior leadership role in directing the academic activities of the department and promoting excellence in research and education. The Department is situated within the newly created School of Biomedical Sciences. The successful applicant will also work together with the School Director, other department Chairs and the School executive to develop and implement strategic interdisciplinary initiatives. A tenure-stream position may be available for the selected candidate.
The successful candidate is expected to:
- have a personal track record in internationally recognized research and a demonstrated commitment to education.
- have the drive and skills to lead major collaborative research initiatives.
- develop an engaging, comprehensive vision for the Department that builds upon existing areas of strength and expands into new research domains and strategic initiatives in the Faculty.
- promote a collaborative and inclusive environment conducive to research and teaching excellence.
- promote excellence and innovation in biomedical sciences and medical education, including optimizing training for a broad range of career paths.
- be an effective liaison across disciplines, research institutes and clinical departments to enable opportunities for translational research.
- provide leadership in the recruitment, development, and mentoring of diverse faculty to achieve their full potential.
