From May 6 – May 8th in 2024, the University of Manitoba will host the 67th Annual Canadian Society for Molecular Biosciences (CSMB) Meeting in Winnipeg. The conference theme will be “Gene Regulation: From Cells to Systems”.
Registration is now open!
The CSMB was saddened to hear of the recent passing of Dr. Eugene Tustanoff, who was Secretary of the CSBMCB for 12 years in the 90s. + + +
The Life Sciences Career Expo (LSCE) is a national, multi-day careers conference designed to bring together students and postdoctoral fellows with educators, researchers, industry partners and government stakeholders to showcase diverse careers held by life sciences graduates and aid trainee career exploration. + + +
Join us at the 66th annual Canadian Society of Metabolic Biosciences (CSMB) conference at the University of Ottawa (May 30 – June 2, 2023)! With the theme of “Metabolic regulation of cell signaling,” this conference brings together top minds in the field to explore cutting-edge research on cellular metabolism in health and disease.
The CSMB is proud to have supported this student initiative!
Organizing group: Experimental Medicine Graduate Students’ Society (EMGSS)
Location: Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre, Montreal QC
The next CSMB trainee organised virtual seminar series is taking place Tuesday March 14 at 9am PT/ 12pm ET. We will hear from trainee speaker Maria Laura Sosa Ponce from University of Calgary and PI speaker Wei Zhang from University of Guelph.Â

We invite you to the first CSMB Virtual Seminar which will take place on Tuesday February 14th, 2023 at 9am PT/12 pm ET. We will hear exciting work from Dr. Michael Downey (University of Ottawa) who will tell us about “Systems biology of polyphosphate” and trainee Laura Orofiamma (Toronto Metropolitan University) whose talk is titled “Metabolic control of clathrin-mediated endocytosis by AMPK impacts integrin traffic and cell migration”.
The goal of this seminar series is to highlight the amazing and innovative research being carried out in Canada, including the work of our trainees. This is the first seminar in our series, which will occur on the second Tuesday of every month at 9am PT/12pm ET. Please feel free to circulate the information about these seminars with you colleagues. Everyone is welcome!

On Friday, June 25, the Canadian Society for Molecular Biosciences, in partnership with the Canadian Association for Neuroscience welcomed former Minister of Science and current Member of Parliament, Dr. Kirsty Duncan to an event on Science and Government 101. During the session, Dr. Duncan stressed the need for scientists and researchers to get involved, with a unified voice, in advocating to government on how scientific evidence matters. As said best by Dr. Duncan, “We can’t continue on two separate tracks… where science doesn’t know politics, and politics doesn’t know science”. Heeding her advice, the CSMB is planning for future engagement with government officials, especially in light of a potential Fall 2021 election.
Further details will follow once the timing of the election is clear, but we will be supporting Members with their election engagement through the preparation and sharing of template tweets and social media advice, one-page documents with election priorities, and support for Members looking to reach out to their local candidates.
In the meantime, if you were looking to engage with your local Member of Parliament over the summer and would like some support, please reach out to Kristina Proulx from Temple Scott Associates at kproulx@tsa.ca and she will try her best to coordinate a meeting on your behalf.
Thank you @CSMB_SCBM and @CAN_ACN for an excellent afternoon of science and politics. I look forward to hearing you share your science stories, and how science changes the lives of Canadians every day. Your expertise and voice will help build a better Canada and future. pic.twitter.com/Bf86sJxYPt
