The School of Human Nutrition of McGill University’s Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Nutritional Pathobiology. High priority research areas include the pathobiology of nutrition-related diseases throughout the lifespan, nutritional biochemistry of health and disease, epigenetic inheritance of disease susceptibility through generations, and damage to commensal microbiota. The ideal research approach will encompass basic discovery and translational research in the identification of targets and development of novel nutrition-based interventions.
McGill University is one of Canada’s oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher learning with 40,000 students, and 1,600 tenure-track professors. The Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (www.mcgill.ca/macdonald) is located on McGill University’s Macdonald Campus, which occupies 650 hectares in a beautiful waterfront setting on the western tip of the island of Montreal.
The School of Human Nutrition (www.mcgill.ca/nutrition) is a research-intensive unit with ongoing activities in our on-site research facilities; including the School’s mass spectrometry and molecular nutrition laboratory, and Mary Emily Clinical Nutrition Research Unit, as well as the Centre for Indigenous Peoples’ Nutrition and Environment, Margaret A. Gilliam Institute for Global Food Security. Other McGill-affiliated research and health centres (www.mcgill.ca/research/about/partners) include McGill University Health Centre teaching hospitals and McGill University Genome Quebec Innovation Centre.
The successful candidate who satisfies the eligibility conditions of the Canada Research Chair (CRC) program may be supported by the University for nomination to a Tier 2 Chair in Nutritional Pathobiology, which provides protected time for research within a full-time academic appointment.
Nominees for Tier 2 Chair positions must be emerging scholars and hold the rank of assistant or associate professor, or possess the necessary qualifications to be appointed to these levels. A nominee who is more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree and has experienced legitimate career interruptions (e.g., maternity or parental leave, extended sick leave, clinical training, and family care) will be taken into consideration using the Tier 2 justifications process.

The successful candidate will teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels advanced metabolism including research methodology, and establish and/or maintain an externally-funded research program, and develop research collaborations in a multi-disciplinary, multi-sectorial environment at the national and international level. The successful applicant is also expected to participate in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e.: teaching, graduate student supervision, mentorship, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).
