Award description and eligibility
The distinction of CSMB Fellow is bestowed on a faculty member
- who must be a current or past member of CSMB,
- who has displayed excellent scientific accomplishments in the general area of molecular biosciences, and
- who has demonstrated exceptional and sustained service to the CSMB Society preferentially and/or to the general molecular biosciences community in Canada.
Fellows would have typically demonstrated leadership or have been involved in activities such as mentorship, outreach, advocacy for science, or the promotion of diversity and inclusion, in addition to their research activities.
Fellows will be honored at the CSMB annual meeting and recognized at CSMB-related events. Fellows have the privilege to add “CSMB Fellow” (FCSMB) to their signature.
Elected fellows must maintain their membership to CSMB to maintain the title of “CSMB Fellow” and must adhere to the CSMB code of conduct.
The CSMB Board has the power to revoke the title of CSMB Fellow if a fellow is deemed to be engaged in what is considered to be scientific or professional misconduct.
Current members of the CSMB Board are not eligible. At large members are eligible.
Nomination of CSMB Fellows
The Society welcomes nominations of members for the distinction of CSMB Fellow from diverse backgrounds and in all areas of the molecular biosciences. The nomination is submitted by a nominator who must be a current active CSMB faculty member. Self-nominations are not allowed.
The nomination consists of:
- A single letter, maximum of two pages, written by the nominator that must emphasize two aspects of the candidate’s career.
- the candidate’s most significant contributions to the molecular biosciences
- the candidate’s sustained and significant contributions to CSMB and/or to the general molecular bioscience community in Canada.
- the candidate’s leadership in activities such as mentorship, outreach, advocacy for science, or the promotion of diversity and inclusion
- The candidate’s detailed curriculum vitae.
The committee takes considerations of equity (gender and minority representation) as well as regional representation into account for the recommendation of candidates.
Nominations are reviewed by the CSMB Membership and Diversity Committee and approved by the CSMB executive. No more than 10 nominees will be approved for CSMB Fellows per year.
