UBC medicine logoThe Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure track.

For more than fifty years, the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has played an active and important role at UBC and in the greater scientific community. The Department is located in the Life Science Institute (LSI) that is home to approximately 90 research laboratories from fifteen Departments organized into nine research clusters, fostering a strong foundation for innovation and collaborations. All members of the Department maintain active, well-funded research programs that encompass many areas of modern biochemistry, molecular and structural biology. The Department hosts an active Graduate program with more than 90 students and offers over fifteen undergraduate courses and laboratory courses for honours, major and minor Undergraduate programs.

Candidates with research interests in any area of Biochemistry or Molecular Biology are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and lead a strong, independent and internationally recognized research program relevant to the Department. The incumbent will report to the Department Head and will be required to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching in the Department and participate in Departmental committees. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Applicants must hold a PhD and/or MD degree, awarded within the past ten years, and a minimum of two years of postdoctoral research experience with a record of accomplishment that demonstrates their potential as an independent researcher and teacher. The successful candidate will show demonstrated scholarly activity with an excellent track record in peer-reviewed publications and ability to secure research funds, along with capability to achieve excellence in teaching and to provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community.
