Assistant Professor in Translational Metabolism

The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology invites applications from outstanding researchers for a probationary tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin January 1, 2022. The ideal candidate will have expertise in biochemistry and molecular biology with an emphasis on translational metabolism-related research using classical and state-of-the-art analytical approaches (e.g., proteomics, metabolomics, fluxomics, and/or metagenomics) in a variety of cell lines and/or model organisms. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to: metabolic disorders, immunometabolism, cell metabolism, and regulation of mitochondrial metabolism and function in health and disease.
The Department is committed to basic and translational biomedical research, and strongly supports the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Research in the Department is multidisciplinary, with specializations including metabolic biochemistry, cell biology, evolutionary biology, genetics, molecular biology, and protein science. The candidate will be expected to participate in mentoring research trainees at the undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral levels, as well as teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of intermediary metabolism, lipid biochemistry, and/or nutritional biochemistry, consistent with the candidate’s background and interests. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with internationally recognized groups of researchers at Dalhousie University working in lipid and energy metabolism, phospholipid signaling, nutrient sensing, cardio-metabolic diseases, cancer energetics, and/or signal transduction. The potential to develop an independent, well-funded research program and to collaborate with Dalhousie faculty will be essential.
Located in the Tupper Medical Building, the Department is part of a vibrant research environment where collaboration across disciplines is encouraged. State-of-the-art core facilities include biological mass spectrometry (proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics), microscopy and imaging, flow cytometry, NMR spectroscopy, and rodent and zebrafish facilities. Applicants must have a Ph.D., at least 2 years of post-doctoral experience, and a strong research track record that will be highly competitive in attracting external research funding. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a two-page-maximum statement outlining their proposed research program (highlighting the potential for attracting research funding from public and private sectors), a one-page-maximum statement of teaching interests, and the names of three referees.
